Google Desktop 2 Beta

Filed under: General - Shuai @ 1:08 am

Google Desktop 2 Beta is out! And it’s totally mindblowing.
I was expecting a little bar kinda thing on my desktop. But I got a sidebar.
This thing is awesome. Here’s a snapshot:

If you have downloaded Google Talk, then you will enjoy Google Talk inside the Sidebar.
I’m not sure if it displays it if you haven’t downloaded Google Talk yet, though.

It’s also complete with weather information, Built-In RSS Aggregator, a stock aggregator, a nice scratchpad where you can type in stuff that it will save, Web Clips, and a Google Gmail notifier.

You can, of course, search. On the bottom is the search thing, and then it will go ahead and search.

Developers can now rejoice from the Desktop SDK, a file that will allow you to create plug-ins for the Google Sidebar. Good move, now developers can make this Google Desktop Sidebar huge!

This is a good program. I highly suggest downloading it.

Google Talk

Filed under: General - Shuai @ 5:29 am

GoogleTalk has debuted!
googletalk

GoogleTalk joins Skype and Gizmo Project for the free VoIP craze.

Download GoogleTalk at http://www.google.com/talk/ and install.
Then, you are presented with your GoogleTalk Login.

Login, and you are presented with your start screen. Actually, it’s the only screen, basically, you’ll see.

And if you click a name, you can start a chat with them.

Calling someone…

Click the conversation window, and it rolls up to a nice little window.

The sound quality is Excellent.

And then when it’s minimized see chats.

I really suggest you get this. This can be the next Skype.

Only one thing: Google Talk crashes frequently, and I found it crashed when I was doing POP3 stuff such as Thunderbird Mail or when google talk pops up with the Gmail notifications.

Come back later while we tinker with the settings!

lilli open community

Filed under: General - Shuai @ 10:03 pm

I have finally opened lilli open community (beta 1) to the public.
Actually, it’s been opened for a week now.
But in order to attract more people to lilli, I would like to announce it on my blog.

Case Study
lilli open community

I was thinking of a new place for people to interact easily. Using mambo open source (mos) code foundation, I devised a new site for people to interact and do stuff.
You can get an account to access the members-only features. Enjoy features such as your own blog, profile page, and pages system, plus access to the forums, the shoutbox, message system, and more.
Bored? Spend a while on the forums and look at all the posts that people wrote. In for some conversation? Hit the shoutbox. Want to private message someone? Go to the lilli messages.
This new community is a synergy of a powerful backend system with a fun frontend system.

lilli

Please, get an account on lilli and enjoy!

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 Downloadable

Filed under: General - Shuai @ 7:38 pm

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 now avaliable for Download.

But in Microsoft’s ever-running want for money, you must be a MSDN subscriber.
Which costs a lot.

But never fear…Google is here!
Some really nice webmasters and forum-ers have gotten the copy and released it for free.
http://www.soft32.com/download_997.html

Beware, though, you do NOT want to be installing this on a PC you want to keep ;D
This may totally mess up your computer and render it useless! (maybe it already is…)

So if you want to take a look at IE7, install it on some other test computer.

NOOOO! Looks JUST like Firefox!

RSS, finally.

Apple wiped off the “Earth”!

Filed under: General - Shuai @ 9:28 pm

On the debut of MSN’s Virtual Earth, a competitor with Google’s Earth, some guys found something fishy going on. When they tried to find the address to the Apple Headquarters.

First, Virtual Earth and Google Earth are basically an arial photograph of the earth. Instead of colorful lines on maps, you get a bird’s eye view - or better, as you might say - of the earth.

While Google Earth showed Apple Headquarters:

MSN’s Virtual Earth showed nothing but a patch of dirt with a parking lot and a warehouse.

What’s Microsoft got to say?

“This is about mapping for consumers,” spokesman Adam Sohn said. “We pull the right addresses, it just seems the images are perhaps older.” Sohn said Microsoft is buying newer photographs for parts of the country, and many areas already include the most recent images available.

Hmm, pretty suspicious, don’t you think? Microsoft Network’s Virtual Earth not showing Apple? What is Microsoft up to?

Schools more Computerized

Filed under: General - Shuai @ 9:27 pm

For the first time in all the five or so school districs I have been to, there is one that is finally getting technologized. We know it. We must honor the geeks (like myself).
As I like to say from one dude’s sig in a forum:
“Someday, computer nerds will take over the world. That day is not far…”
(Shuai laughs evily in the background…)

Anyway, my school is going somewhere.

Flash Drive to transport files between home and school (Helpful but not required)

Ok, so we’re somewhere, I guess. Helpful but not required.
DEFINITELY Required.

*sigh*
